456.3 HUF/EUR already a reality at this Hungarian company!

Inflation affects almost everybody in Hungary, just like the quick weakening of the forint. But it seems that Wizz Air already calculates an even darker future since its euro/forint exchange rate is currently the worst available in Hungary. There are tickets to planes taking off from Hungary, which can be bought for a 456.3 HUF/EUR price.

Wizz Air does the ticket pricing in euros. But the ultra-low-cost airline converts that price to the national currency of the departure country. The passenger sees that price in the booking system and pays accordingly. That is why we can see the price of a Budapest-Paris flight in forints, while a Paris-Budapest course is in euros. Therefore, we pay in euros for our return ticket, and the transaction’s exchange rate is that of the bank where we have our account. In the case of a return ticket, the price of the departure country matters only.

Wizz Air pricing sluggishly followed the changes in the forint’s exchange rate for some time. If the Hungarian national currency weakened, the company adjusted its prices only after a while. However, now it does not follow it anymore but precedes it. Okosutas.hu says that from this Monday on, they convert forint using a much lower exchange rate than the official. As a result, we have to pay more in forint than in euros for the same ticket.

The cheaper a ticket gets, the worse the currency exchange rate of Wizz Air becomes. The cheapest tickets are currently only available for club members. They cost 14.99 euros, which was 6,240 HUF last week. However, when the okosutas’s article was published, that rose to 6,840 HUF (16.38 EUR ). If you divide those sums, the result is a 456 HUF/EUR exchange rate. When the modification was done the exchange rate stood at 424 HUF/EUR.

Okosutas.hu collected other categories until the 39.99 EUR limit:

  • 14.99 EUR = 6,840 HUF, the currency exchange rate is 456.3
  • 17.99 EUR = 8,140 HUF, the currency exchange rate is 452.5
  • 19.99 EUR = 9,040 HUF, the currency exchange rate is 452.2
  • 24.99 EUR = 11,240 HUF, the currency exchange rate is 449.8
  • 29.99 EUR =13,340 HUF, the currency exchange rate is 446.1
  • 34.99 EUR = 15,540 HUF, the currency exchange rate is 444.1
  • 39.99 EUR = 17,640 HUF, the currency exchange rate is 441.1

You can save money if you buy the outward and the return ticket separately. However, in the case of a cancellation, you will get a refund for only one of them.
